Danfoss Burner Components took their new generation of water nozzles to the USA to test them at the Tallahassee Application Development Center
A joint venture with another Danfoss business unit - High Pressure Pumps – and the results speak for themselves: the water nozzles reduce ambient temperatures with up to 10 degrees, which provides a potential of up to 30% energy reduction in chillers!
A few years ago, Danfoss Burner Components (BC) started developing the next generation of a future-ready portfolio of nozzles for water spray applications and pumps for liquid low-carbon fuels as part of their decarbonization journey.
“Over the past 75 years, BC has built a reputation within the industry for designing and manufacturing high-quality, reliable nozzles,” says Carsten Burk, Product Manager, and continues: “And our customers can expect that same standard from our next generation of water nozzles. That is why we are really happy to see the performance documented in such impressive test results: our water spray nozzles can reduce an ambient temperature with up to 10 degrees. Only 1°C temperature decrease when using the Danfoss nozzle for pre-cooling, ensures 3% energy reduction of the chiller, which provides a potential of up to 30% energy reduction.”
We had already conducted extensive in-house and field testing of our water spray product portfolio, working closely together with customers and independent competence centers to ensure outstanding spray performance. Taking the nozzles to Tallahassee for further, intensive testing was the next step.
Getting the best support from experts and colleagues
Our colleagues from High Pressure Pumps and the ADC in Tallahassee helped to test the nozzles, and the purpose of the test was to get more specific product performance data about our water nozzles – in combination with getting data on the high-pressure pump performance. “So, really we got two birds with one stone!,” explains Kent Dyrvig, Sales Manager, HPP, with a smile.
The new evolved Slimline nozzles have already proven themselves to provide our customers with outstanding spray performance, reliability, and efficiency. And now we also have the data that documents how they are able to reduce the temperature in a cooling application – achieving a drop in the ambient temperature of up to 10 degrees. This also supports the reducing of a higher work load of the chiller in high and dry ambient temperatures.
Getting technical: our nozzles deliver a very fine spray – and that is good!
The finer and more uniform the water mist, the greater the potential for adhesion between water and the surrounding particles. Carsten Burk explains some of the technical details: “With our technology we can, for example, achieve humidification and cooling without wetting. The Slimline nozzle has an anti-drip function with high corrosive resistant plating. The nozzle emits a finely atomized spray mist suitable for nearly all humidifying, light-wetting, and evaporative cooling applications.”
“We put a lot in, so you get the right drops out”
We have put 75 years of experience into our sustainable water nozzle portfolio. Carsten is quite proud of what we have achieved: “We have a range that covers many needs and serves in many different applications – humidification, agriculture, adiabatic cooling, disinfection, wood drying, dust suppression, etc. Our range of two product families covers the needs of a very wide range of applications. And we back everything with the solidity of Danfoss support. In short, we put a lot in, so our customer gets the right drops out.”
