Three new SOLAS-compliant components available now
Danfoss launches three new stainless-steel components that enable engine builders to comply with SOLAS 282 that came into force on all new builds in July 2017. The heavy-duty pressure switch MBC 5100, the pressure test valve MBV 5000 and the test valve for pressure cartridge transmitters MBV 3000 are the newest addition to Danfoss’ SOLAS-compliant valve and transmitter program.
In July 2017, the Unified Interpretation of SOLAS 282 came into force, aligning marine operators, ship and engine builders as well as regulating bodies around improved safety in the engine room that accounts for two out of three ship fires.
In response to the quest for safe solutions that protect personnel and assets, Danfoss now extends its product program with three new stainless-steel components for marine applications.
"It is important that we all work together to eliminate aluminum and other metals with low melting points from installations where fuel oil, lubrication oil and other flammable substances are used. Stainless steel is a safe and competitive alternative that allows our valves, switches and transmitters to withstand temperatures up to 1400° C and still offers the same high reliability, precision and durability as other materials", says Richard L. Jørgensen, Marine Application Manager at Danfoss.
MBC 5100 in Stainless-steel - accurate, robust, and fire-resistant for more than an hour
The MBC 5100 in stainless AISI 304L steel is a highly reliable, heavy-duty pressure switch optimized for marine applications. The new stainless-steel switch offers high vibration stability and guarantees accurate monitoring of critical pressures. Its compact design allows easy integration into the engine design, and it comes with all common marine approvals.
The versatile pressure switch can be used for alarm indication, shut down, control, and diagnosis in motors, gears, thrusters, pumps, filters, and compressors.

New MBV 3000 – fast, fire-resistant and easy to operate test valve
With MBV 3000, testing of cartridge transmitters has never been easier. The test valve made of stainless AISI 304 steel comes with all common marine approvals and is available Q4 2019. The built-in shut-off valve allows operators to test the transmitter without draining the system. When the test is complete, the valve is re-opened, and the transmitter is immediately connected to the system again. The cartridge test valve can be used to test alarms, shut-down, monitoring and diagnosis of motors, gears, thrusters, pumps, filters and compressors.

New MBV 5000 – compact, lightweight and fire-resistant for more than an hour
The new Danfoss MBV 5000 pressure test valve made of stainless AISI 304 steel saves space, weight and cost in motors, gears, thrusters, pumps, filters and compressors. The test block can be delivered in many different configurations for different requirements. The test valve meets demands for fast installation, easy test pressure connection and simple isolation. The test valve can be used to test alarms, shut-down, monitoring and diagnosis. The stainless-steel version of MBV 5000 comes with all common marine approvals and is available Q4 2019.
