New Clark City workshop to spotlight Energy Efficiency as key to urban decarbonization
Cities, responsible for 70% of global carbon emissions, are critical in the fight against climate change. New Clark City in the Philippines is taking a leadership role, aiming to become a model for smart and sustainable urban development. To support this goal, The Royal Danish Embassy, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and Danfoss hosted a workshop on July 9th, 2024, titled "Decarbonizing New Clark City through Energy Efficiency."
New Clark City is a new planned city currently being developed on a former US military base in the Philippines by Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and various private sectors with spans area of 9,450 hectares. The city is expected to be the country’s first SMART, RESILIENT, and GREEN Metropolis.
The workshop focused on the vital role of energy efficiency in achieving urban decarbonization and the implementation of existing technologies. Experts will discuss how existing technologies in building design, transportation, and sector integration can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, putting cities on a path to meet the 1.5°C target.
Danfoss, a leader in energy-efficient technologies, will showcase its portfolio of products and solutions designed to support a decarbonized future. The company's innovative offerings span various sectors, including industrial applications, buildings, infrastructure, and the food cold chain.
The workshop aims to:
• Raise awareness about the importance of energy efficiency in urban decarbonization.
• Foster strategic partnerships to accelerate the adoption of energy-efficient technologies.
• Develop an actionable roadmap for implementing decarbonization strategies in New Clark City.
• Strengthen stakeholder commitment to sustainable urban development practices.
"Danfoss is committed to partnering with BCDA to make New Clark City a global benchmark for sustainable urban development. Our broad portfolio of cutting-edge technologies, designed to reduce emissions across industries from infrastructure to food chains, will empower BCDA to realize their vision of a decarbonized, digital, and truly sustainable city of the future," said Jan Schoemaker, Regional President, Danfoss Asia Pacific.
"Decarbonizing New Clark City through Energy Efficiency" is a crucial step towards a sustainable future for cities worldwide. By embracing advanced technologies and collaboration, New Clark City can become a shining example of green urban development for others to emulate.
